With projects across Western Canada, Seymour Pacific continues to be an industry leader in multifamily development and construction. See what projects are currently in construction below.
Over the past 30 years Seymour Pacific has grown from building local, single-family homes in Campbell River, to becoming an industry leader in multi-unit housing development across Western Canada. See our story below.
Valuing the family-oriented nature of his father’s business, Kris launched his own construction company with his wife Cheryl in 1983. The name, Seymour Pacific Developments, was inspired by the beautiful Seymour Narrows, a strait of the Pacific Ocean’s Discovery Passage located alongside his hometown of Campbell River, BC.
Over the next 10 years, Kris and Cheryl grew their business in Campbell River, building an average of more than 20 single-family homes each year. They later diversified into subdivision development, duplexes and, eventually, their first rental apartment complex.
In the early 1990’s, Kris decided to launch a property management company that would professionally manage the buildings he constructed with Seymour Pacific Developments. To assist him, he hired a branding company headquartered on a broad, tree-lined street in Edmonton, which is what inspired our company’s name: “Broadstreet Properties.”
Throughout the remainder of the 1990s and early 2000s, we expanded into 12 cities across four provinces, accumulating an impressive portfolio of 2,000 units. Seymour Pacific Developments earned a reputation as specialists in four-story, wood construction apartment complexes.
In 2005, Kris decided to take his companies in a new direction. He sold 1,750 units from the portfolio to a single purchaser, and the balance to individual investors.
In spring 2006, Broadstreet Properties was re-started under a new business model with the launch of the first property in our new portfolio, River Meadows Estates in Winnipeg, MB.
Expansion continued in Winnipeg, and by 2009 projects were built in Leduc, AB and Saskatoon, SK.
The pairing of a construction company with a rental management company proved extremely successful. Seymour Pacific Developments had established a proven formula for construction and a reputation for speed, efficiency and quality. For Broadstreet Properties, having this construction arm to our rental management business meant we could influence the design of buildings to suit our client’s needs. It also gave us a powerful competitive advantage and redefined rental experience standards for the entire industry.
In 2011, Broadstreet Properties was structured to support its continued growth. We welcomed a new General Manager, launched our Client Care Centre, modernized our interior and exterior specs and increased staffing levels by 55%.
Our portfolio reached an impressive 5,000 units, in ten cities across three provinces with continued growth and expansion into new markets.
Despite national success, we remain headquartered in Kris Mailman’s hometown of Campbell River, where a new head office opened in Summer 2014. Its beautiful, West Coast inspired design helps redefine the city’s downtown core, and its energy-efficient operations, ample green space and progressive interior workstations is a testament to our company’s progressive approach.
